Tracy On

BASc, ’20; MAN, ’21

My name’s Tracy On and I’m completing my last semester of the Master of Applied Nutrition program to become a registered dietitian. I am a first-generation immigrant and my sister and I are the first in our family to finish high school and university.

Growing up in a predominantly white community, all I wanted to do was fit in. I hated getting questions about the food I brought to school or the clothes I wore because my parents didn’t shop at all the “cool” stores. But as an adult, I wish I could go back and tell the younger Tracy to embrace her culture and to ignore the people who are close-minded and afraid of people who are different.

As a dietitian, I hope to represent the Asian community and be an example for others. I’m continuously working on addressing my own assumptions I have about other cultures and embracing my own, and I hope that is reflected in the content I create.
