Hello everyone! My name is Leanne Lazaro and I am honoured to be a part of the Nutrition Diversified community! As a first generation Indian-Canadian, being born and raised in Canada has provided me with a wide perspective of all races, religions and cultures. I am currently enrolled into my second year of Nutrition at Ryerson University and will be minoring in Psychology.
My interest in food started at a young age when I would help my parents in the kitchen and as I grew older, social media gave me a huge insight to different behavioral eating habits, diets and body images. I saw plenty of unhealthy and unrealistic standards in which I unfortunately adapted those mentalities into my own life. After further research, I learned healthier alternatives in regards to health and wellness and that became the foundation of my desire to learn and help people with their own personal health journeys.
As I work towards my goal of becoming a Registered Dietitian, not only do I want to cater to personal and medical needs, but also to the cultural/ ethinic backgrounds of my future clients. I believe there is a huge importance when creating meal plans and dietary suggestions, where the inclusion of one’s culture is essential to making clients feel like they are understood and accepted.
I would like to thank you for letting me share my thoughts, experiences and values on dietetics as it is truly a passion of mine.
